The university's St. Thomas campus is in for a treat with the hosting of the Miss Plus and Posh Pageant by the Student Government Association (SGA) Queen's Committee.

The pageant, which is slated for Saturday March 7, 2009 in the university's Dining Pavilion on St. Thomas, will comprise of four appearances: introductory speech, fashion forward wear, talent and formal wear.

In an interview with the UVI Voice, chairperson of the Queen's committee, Renee Wilkinson, spoke of how the idea came about.

"Being the Queen's Committee chairperson, I thought it was a good idea to host a pageant with our plus-sized ladies because I've never seen one of this kind at UVI since I've been here," Wilkinson said.

In addition to other gifts and prizes, the winner will receive $300 and two tickets to a Reichhold event while the first runner-up will receive $200.

Persons wishing to participate in the pageant can email Renee Wilkinson at babyluv133@hotmail.com or complete application forms at the Student Activities office from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Wilkinson and her committee are also working closely with the Queen's Committee on the St. Croix campus towards the staging of the Miss UVI Ambassadorial Competition.

The Miss UVI Ambassadorial Competition will be held in St. Croix this year.
