UVI Community Health Outreach and Research
Hariyah dan-Fodio
The UVI Caribbean Exploratory Research Center (CERC) under the direction and supervision of CERC director, Gloria B. Callwood, Ph.D., RN, is making sure that culture specific health care reform comes to the US Virgin Islands. CERC collects and documents statistical data that provides information for legislative initiatives, that when passed, make public funding available for much needed healthcare and prevention programs.
UVI students can support this initiative by participating in CERC sponsored forums, seminars, studies and/or trainings.
CERC’s ongoing research projects include the documentation of:
-
Health Status and Health Practices of African American and Caribbean Women
-
Knowledge, Attitudes, Perceptions, and Decision making of Pregnant and Parenting Women of African Heritage at Risk for Living with HIV/AIDS
-
HPV Transmission, Cervical Cancer Screening and Condom Use Survey
Preparing students and community partners to participate in and/or conduct research on minority health or health disparities is a core objective of the CERC.
We encourage you to stay informed and actively contribute to our Nation’s Health.
